Oct. 17 Beach Concerto performance in Idaho Falls

On Oct. 17, Idaho Falls Symphony performs Amy Beach’s monumental and exciting Piano Concerto in C-sharp minor, op. 45. The soloist is Kara Huber (“Absolutely dazzling…in a word, flawless. Let’s repeat that: flawless.” New York Review).  Huber is a seasoned veteran of Beach’s Concerto, having championed the work widely. Shizuo Z. Kuwahara conducts the IFS.
Concert sponsors include Mountain View Hospital & Teton Cancer Institute and ElevateHer Music, and the concert is designated a MVH Pink Ribbon Concert, bringing awareness to breast cancer screening and treatment.
And we love pointing out the rich and emotional background of the Concerto, in which Beach draws from three of her own songs composed over a decade earlier.  The texts,  and links to recordings of the songs are provided here.

Beach Concerto to receive Argentine premiere March 7!

Pianist Asiya Korepanova and conductor Zoe Zeniodi bring Amy Beach’s great Piano Concerto in C-sharp minor (op.45) to life on Saturday March 7. The concert takes place in the historic Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, one of the great classical music venues of the world!  Despite the Concerto being dedicated to the Venezuelan pianist Teresa Carreño, it has never been performed Argentina, nor (to our knowledge) in South America before! Please let us know if we are wrong (at info@wophil.org). So this is an exciting premiere!    The program also includes Marianna Martines Sinfonia, and R. Schumann’s Symphony n. 1.

KOREPANOVA plays CONCERTO, Jan. 17

The brilliant pianist Asiya Korepranova brings Amy Beach’s Piano Concerto op.45 to life this weekend in Abilene, TX!!

The concert takes place Sat. Jan. 17 – here’s the website of the Abilene Philharmonic, and tickets are here.  And we’ve written about the piano concerto — and Asiya’s championing of it — here, and here we provide links to Beach’s  own three songs that she drew upon in writing her concerto.  So you should definitely not miss this concert (which also incudes Tchaikovsky’s Symphony n. 6)!
